Charles Wesley was born on December 18, 1707, and died on March 29, 1788. He was the brother of John Wesley, whose teachings led to the rise of the Methodist Church.
Charles wrote around 8,000 hymns; about five and a half thousand were published during his lifetime, with another two thousand remaining unpublished.
