1. The field is the world, and its acres wide
Are waiting the sower’s hand,
And empty the furrows on ev’ry side;
Then why do you idle stand?
Refrain:
Go forth, go forth,
(Go forth, go forth,)
And sow the grain;
(And sow the grain, and sow the grain;)
Go forth, go forth,
(Go forth, go forth,)
You’ll reap again.
2. Replenish your basket with precious seed,
And scatter it where you go;
The Word upon which your own soul doth feed
Is that which your hand must sow.
3. There’s seed for the sower and bread for food,
Which God doth Himself provide;
No sower need hunger; his portion’s good;
With plenty he is supplied.
4. Go scatter the seed by the morning light,
You know not how much will live:
Withhold not your hand at approach of night,
For God will the increase give.
