1. Go forth, ye sowers for the Lord,
With words of life and light;
O linger not till setting sun
Shall kiss the world goodnight.
Rich soil and good awaits the seed,
To dress in living green
The barren hillsides, winding vales,
From mountain summits seen.
2. Go forth, ye reapers for the Lord,
Up with the rising morn,
Nor think ye of the mountain’s height
Or weight of burdens borne.
God sends thee forth, and His own strength
Thy constant help shall be.
Go, gather souls, lift up thine eyes,
Rich harvests wait for thee.
3. Go forth, ye gleaners for the Lord,
Your arduous task fulfil;
For in the fields by reapers passed
Some souls may linger still.
With all your suasive tenderness
Compel the lost to come,
And swell the song the ransomed sing,
In yon fair harvest home.
4. Then sowers, reapers, gleaners all,
To that dear Eden home,
Where Christ prepares for each a place
He bids His servants come.
And there we’ll count His mercies o’er,
We’ll wonder at His grace,
But O what joy! thro’ endless years
To look upon His face.
