1. Thou who art faint and weary,
Whose burdens press thee sore,
Does faith begin to waver,
Hope sing her song no more?
Do dark and doubtful questions
Within thy mind arise?
Have clouds shut out the sunlight
Of heaven from thine eyes?
Refrain:
Go, tell it to Jesus,
Whate’er thy trouble be;
Go, tell it to Jesus,
And He will comfort thee.
2. Dost thou in secret wonder,
“Hath God His child forgot?”
Nay, mothers have forgotten—
His greater love could not.
“Then why these bitter trials,
These thorns that pierce me so?”
In faithfulness He chastens;
Hereafter thou shalt know.
3. “But I am so unworthy,
May I His comfort claim?”
Yea, surely, if thou askest
In His prevailing name.
“But I so often grieve Him
With failure, fear and doubt”—
Confess it all to Jesus,
He will not cast thee out.
4. O fainting one, take courage!
Thou has a faithful Friend;
His love is everlasting,
He keepeth to the end.
Tho’ strange may seem His leading,
Believe He knoweth best;
And if thy feet grow weary,
More sweet will be His rest.
