1. Have you ever built an altar in your home,
Where you daily bring your load of care,
Where you praise the God of mercy and of grace,
Where you prove the joy of family prayer?
Refrain:
Build today the family altar;
Gather round the mercy-seat;
Bring your burdens, fears and troubles,
Lay them at the Master’s feet.
2. It is sweet to have an altar in the home,
There to meet with Jesus face to face,
There to tell to Him your sorrow and your fears,
And receive from Him abundant grace.
3. It means conquest with an altar in your home;
Enemies must quit their ground and yield;
Victory is your thro’ Jesus Christ our Lord,
If you’re first in prayer upon the field.
4. Will you build today the altar in the home?
Will you break all other idols down,
Worship God together at the throne of grace,
Praise the Lord and all His mercies own?
